It’s been getting worse for weeks and weeks. Does nobody from the Council’s Roads Department EVER visit Gyle?

The first street furniture visitors to the city encounter entering from the South on the A702. Something (many things over many years, in fact) has recently displaced both islands which are now out of position and encroaching, awkwardly, into both centre lanes. Bump My Ride will monitor the site for developments.

These traffic islands are decades old. For reasons unknown they are not built into the highway but merely cemented onto the road surface. It is a testimony of sorts to the roadbuilders of old that this artery has not been re-surfaced for almost 3 decades.

Doesn’t it make you feel proud?

DURATION: Years and years. All of the above were reported again today.

Welcome to Gyle Shopping Centre. It looks like something serious is going on under the road surface here.

The pothole is about four inches deep at its worst section but the photo shows a trench opening up across the width of the nearside lane.

Clearly, CLARENCE and his mates cannot afford to shop at Gyle or they would have done something about it. Tens of thousands of cars use this road every week. Hundreds of buses pull in and out of Gyle on this lane every week.

The Gyle’s management obviously think so much of their customers that they are not moved to get this fixed.

DURATION: Let’s say three months so far – since January 2007.

The photo shows a nasty pothole and sunken drain cover on the Gyle Roundabout. This defect is about a year old. Drive over this for a good chance of steering damage and/or tracking problems.

Hundreds of thousands of vehicles use this roundabout every month. None of them, apparently, belong to Edinburgh’s hawk-eyed Roads Inspectors.

DURATION: At least 12 months – since April 2006
